Telangana Portal describes the drive as covering “Anganwadi Teachers (Workers), Mini Anganwadi Teachers, and Anganwadi Helpers” — the parenthesis makes the equivalence explicit.
This matters for your search. A candidate in Telangana searching “Anganwadi Worker recruitment” will miss notifications titled “Anganwadi Teacher.” A candidate elsewhere searching “Anganwadi Teacher” will find Telangana’s notifications and assume the post does not exist in their own state. It does — under a different name.
The duties are identical everywhere: supplementary nutrition, immunisation support, health check-ups, and pre-school education for children aged 3–6.

The Residency Rule
“Only local women candidates are eligible. Urban Areas: Candidate should belong to the same Ward. Rural Areas: Candidate should belong to the same Gram Panchayat where the Anganwadi Centre is located.”
This is the same rule that governs the post nationally, and it is absolute. As covered in our Anganwadi Worker guide, applying from outside your ward is among the most common causes of rejection, and no amount of merit survives it.
Note Telangana’s marital position. Both married and unmarried women are eligible — though “preference may be given to married women and those with prior experience in child welfare activities.” That differs from Andhra Pradesh, where one district notification required candidates to be married.
The Teaching Qualification Advantage
“Additional qualifications like ECCE (Early Childhood Care & Education) or NTT (Nursery Teacher Training) will be an advantage.”
This is worth acting on. The AWT designation is not decorative — the post delivers pre-school education, and Telangana explicitly values a teaching qualification.
The same pattern appears in Maharashtra, where “local women with D.Ed or B.Ed qualifications are preferred for Sevika posts as they can better handle pre-school activities.”
If you hold ECCE, NTT, D.Ed or B.Ed, say so. It is not a requirement, and it is an advantage.

Telangana has introduced “a transparent merit-based selection system” in which “candidates will receive marks based on the following criteria,” with the final merit list prepared using a 100-mark weightage system. The criteria table is in each district’s notification.

Note the phrase “priority given to higher qualifications.” Where the minimum is 10th, an Intermediate or graduate candidate ranks above a 10th-pass candidate. The same cascade appears at the Helper level: “if no Intermediate-qualified candidate is available, SSC-qualified candidates may be considered.”
And one caution: “The district-level committee has the authority to cancel the notification or make modifications, as stated in the official notice.”

A caution that matters. “The official notification released for the vacancy on Telangana AWT Teacher does not include the details about the salary.” And: “The exact salary structure for AWT posts is not mentioned in the notifications reviewed. Anganwadi Teachers in Telangana usually receive a fixed monthly honorarium as decided by the WCD & SC Department from time to time.”
The figures circulating are estimates. The notifications themselves do not state the honorarium. Candidates should check department circulars, or ask the local CDPO office.

The central component is fixed nationally at ₹4,500. Telangana’s state share of ₹9,000 or more is what puts it near the top of the national range — against roughly ₹6,500 in Uttar Pradesh.
What it is not: an honorarium, not a salary. Anganwadi Teachers and Helpers are honorary workers, not regular government employees — no DA, no HRA, no pension. They are entitled to ESI, health insurance, maternity benefits, and PMJJBY, PMSBY and PM-JAY cover.

Mahabubnagar’s window ran 10 days — 20 to 30 June 2026. “There is no indication of an extension, so applicants are strongly advised to apply well before the deadline.”

Each district has its own dates. “Candidates must check the application window carefully for each district, as different notifications carry different start and end dates.”
