And most 8th pass boys in this country do not know it exists, because every job website is busy showing them Railway Group D forms they are not eligible for.

2. Which Trades Can an 8th Pass Candidate Choose?
Here is where you must be careful, because most websites blur this deliberately.
The 8th pass stream is typically restricted to support trades — commonly Housekeeper and Mess Keeper type posts, depending on that year’s notification. The exact list is printed in the trade table of the official notification PDF and it can change cycle to cycle.
The wider tradesman list — Chef, Washerman (Dhobi), Barber, Dresser, Steward, Artisan (Wood Worker), Painter, Tailor — generally sits in the 10th pass stream.

Practical advice: when the notification drops, open the PDF and go straight to the trade annexure. If a trade you want shows “10th pass” against it, you cannot apply for it — no exception, no relaxation, no request letter. Pick from your stream and move on.
3. Eligibility Criteria – Every Condition
Educational Qualification
Class 8 pass from a recognised board or school, with a minimum of 33% marks in each of the five basic subjects.
Read that carefully. It is 33% in each subject, not 33% aggregate. A candidate with 70% overall but 28% in one subject is rejected. There is no aggregate percentage requirement beyond this — you simply must have passed everything with 33%.
For boards using a grading system, the grade corresponding to 33% is considered.
Age Limit
17 years 6 months to 21 years.
This is the most brutal rule in the entire recruitment. Under the Agnipath Scheme there is no age relaxation — not for SC, not for ST, not for OBC, not for EWS, not for ex-servicemen wards. Twenty-two years old means the door is shut permanently for this post.

5. Salary Structure – The Full Breakdown
The Agniveer salary is a package, not a take-home. This confuses lakhs of candidates every year, so here it is plainly.
30% of your monthly package is deducted into the Agniveer Corpus Fund. The Government contributes an equal 30%. That deducted money is not lost — it comes back to you as Seva Nidhi at the end.

Seva Nidhi – The Exit Money

The Honest Catch
You must hear this properly.
It is a 4-year fixed tenure. Only up to 25% of each batch is enrolled into the regular Army cadre, based on merit and organisational requirement. The other 75% exit. There is no pension for them, no ex-servicemen status in the traditional sense, and no canteen facility after exit.
Anyone who tells you Agniveer is a permanent job is lying to you. Go in with open eyes: it is four years of excellent pay, ₹10 lakh, and a real shot at the 25%.
6. Selection Process – Step by Step
The process was inverted in 2023 — the exam now comes first, then the rally. This is good news for you. Earlier, lakhs of boys travelled hundreds of kilometres to a rally ground and were rejected in four hours.

Phase 2 – Recruitment Rally at Your ARO
Shortlisted candidates are called to the Army Recruiting Office rally.

- Select Agniveer Tradesman (8th Pass) as your category. You may apply for up to two Agniveer categories, but each requires a separate application and a separate CEE. You attend only one rally and one medical, based on the higher standard of the two.

- Upload documents in the prescribed format and size.
