NLC India Recruitment 2026: Industrial Trainee and Technical Vacancies

NLC India Limited — formerly Neyveli Lignite Corporation, a Navratna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Coal — operates lignite mines, pithead thermal power stations and solar and wind farms across Neyveli, Barsingsar, Talabira, South Pachwara and Tuticorin.

It runs one of the largest apprenticeship programmes in South India.

And its Industrial Trainee (Mines & Mines Support Services) eligibility reads:

“ITI — Fitter or Turner or Electrician or Welding or MMV or Diesel Mechanic or Tractor Mechanic or Civil or Foundry or Cable Jointing Trades with NAC Certification.”

That is the sixth employer in this series to require or accept the National Apprenticeship Certificate — and NLC requires it. An ITI on its own does not qualify.

One clarification before proceeding: “Junior Technical Assistant” is not an NLC post. The nearest equivalents are Industrial Trainee (Mines & Mines Support Services) and Junior Overman (Trainee), both covered below.

1. The NAC Requirement

NLC’s direct recruitment listing for Industrial Trainee sets out two streams:

PostEssential Qualification
Industrial Trainee [Specialised Mining Equipment (SME) Operations]“Not less than Full time Diploma in Engineering course of minimum 3 years duration”
Industrial Trainee (Mines & Mines Support Services)“ITI — Fitter or Turner or Electrician or Welding or MMV or Diesel Mechanic or Tractor Mechanic or Civil or Foundry or Cable Jointing Trades with NAC Certification”

Read the second row. The NAC is part of the essential qualification, not an alternative to it.

This completes the pattern across the entire technical tier:

EmployerPosition on the NAC
RRB Technician Grade IIICCAA accepted in lieu of ITI
BHEL Artisan Grade IVNAC required in addition to ITI
ISRO Technician-BNAC accepted alongside ITI/NTC
AVNL Junior TechnicianNAC accepted alongside ITI/NTC
BEL Technician ‘C’NAC required — or accepted alone, with no ITI
NLC Industrial Trainee (Mines)NAC required in addition to ITI

Six employers. Three of them will not take you without it.

The conclusion for an ITI holder is now unambiguous: the apprenticeship is not optional experience. It is the qualification that opens the PSU technical tier — and the ITI alone does not.

And NLC is itself one of the largest producers of that certificate. Its own Trade Apprentice programme — 607 posts — is how a candidate earns the NAC that NLC’s Industrial Trainee post then requires.

2. The Stipend Ladder

NLC runs four distinct training engagements, and the stipends are clearly tiered by qualification:

EngagementQualificationStipend
Trade ApprenticeITI₹11,040 per month
Technician ApprenticeFull-time Diploma in Engineering/Technology, from a State Technical Board or recognised authority₹12,524 per month — including ₹4,000 via DBT by Government
Graduate ApprenticeFull-time Degree in Engineering/Technology from a recognised statutory university₹15,028 per month — including ₹4,500 via DBT by Government
Industrial Trainee (Finance)CA Intermediate or CMA Intermediate₹22,000 per month, fixed

The DBT Component

Note the structure of the Technician and Graduate Apprentice stipends.

₹4,000 of the Technician Apprentice’s ₹12,524 — and ₹4,500 of the Graduate Apprentice’s ₹15,028 — comes directly from the Government by Direct Benefit Transfer.

This is the Government’s share under the national apprenticeship schemes, paid to your account rather than through the employer. It is worth knowing, because it explains why the stipend arrives in two parts, and candidates occasionally assume the smaller employer-paid component is the whole of it.

The Trade Apprentice stipend of ₹11,040 is “as per Apprenticeship Rules.”

Compare across the series: Yantra India pays ₹8,200 (Non-ITI) and ₹9,600 (Ex-ITI); BHEL pays ₹10,700–₹11,050 (Trade), ₹10,900 (Technician) and ₹12,300 (Graduate); NLC pays ₹11,040, ₹12,524 and ₹15,028.

NLC’s apprentice stipends are the highest in this series.

The One-Shot Rule — Again

“Apprenticeship currently undergoing or already completed candidates are not eligible.”

This is the fourth employer in this series to impose it, alongside BHEL Haridwar (“already completed apprenticeship training — not eligible”), Yantra India (“already undergone apprenticeship in Ordnance and Ordnance Equipment Factories — not eligible”) and the wider pattern.

You get one apprenticeship. Where you take it is therefore a decision, not a formality — and given that BHEL, BEL and NLC all require the NAC it produces, it should be taken deliberately and early.

A Conflict on Domicile

Sources differ. One states that “only candidates from Tamil Nadu with ITI qualifications in relevant trades are eligible to apply.” Another states that “candidates from any state can apply, but they must be ready to undergo training at Neyveli, Tamil Nadu.”

This is a material difference. Verify the domicile clause in the notification PDF before applying.

4. Industrial Trainee (Finance) — The Outlier

Advertisement No. 06/2026 — worth covering because its terms are unlike anything else in this tier.

And the provision that stands out across this entire series:

“Maximum age in all cases cannot exceed 58 years.”

PwBD candidates receive relaxation of up to 15 years; Ex-servicemen per government rules.

Fifty-eight. Against IOCL’s 24, POWERGRID’s 27, DRDO’s 28, RRB’s 30 and ISRO’s 35. There is no comparable age ceiling anywhere in this series.

The vacancy distribution shows a higher concentration in the Neyveli units, with other locations carrying limited slots — which raises competition region-wise.

Two further terms worth noting: “Preference may be given to project-affected persons where applicable” — and “legal jurisdiction for disputes lies only in Chennai courts.”

Project-Affected Persons

PAP preference is a genuine NLC provision, reflecting the land acquired for its mines and plants.

The PAP certificate is obtained from the Land Office, and NLC’s own notices have carried separate deadlines for it — in one cycle, applications for the PAP certificate at the Land Office closed before the recruitment deadline itself.

If you are from a project-affected family, obtain the certificate early. The deadline for the certificate is not the deadline for the application.

5. Junior Overman (Trainee) and Mining Sirdar

The closest NLC equivalent to a “Junior Technical Assistant” post — and a genuine diploma route.

Duration120 minutes
Negative markingNone“no negative marks for wrong answer”

Minimum qualifying50% — UR & EWS · 40% — SC/ST/OBC-NCL against reserved vacancies

No negative marking is unusual in this tier. DRDO CEPTAM deducts 0.25, POWERGRID deducts ¼, RRB Technician deducts 1/3, ISRO deducts 0.33. NLC’s Junior Overman paper deducts nothing — so every question should be attempted.

And note the weighting: 70 of 100 questions are subject knowledge, at Diploma level. The paper is your own syllabus.

Fees: ₹595 for Junior Overman (Trainee) and ₹486 for Mining Sirdar for General candidates; ₹295 and ₹236 respectively for reserved categories. Payment online.

Also notified: Assistant Foreman (Trainee) — 270 posts, and Security Guard in W-3 Grade for the Neyveli units.

6. The Executive Tier — GATE-Gated

Graduate Executive Trainee (GET) is “the core entry-level officer cadre for engineers — Mechanical, Electrical, Mining, Civil” — and “GETs are recruited primarily through GATE 2026 scores.”

Final selection: a weighted average of GATE (80%) and Interview (20%).

On absorption, Junior Managers and Assistant Managers move to ₹60,000 – ₹1,80,000 (E-3 grade); General Managers reach ₹1,20,000 – ₹2,80,000.

As with NTPC and POWERGRID, GATE gates the executive route — and not yours. The Industrial Trainee and apprentice routes require no GATE score.

Note the Common Allowance at 35% of basic and the superannuation contribution at 30% of Basic + DA — both substantial, and both absent from headline salary figures.

7. Application

All applications are submitted online through the ‘CAREERS’ section at www.nlcindia.in.

For Industrial Trainee (Finance):

  1. Visit nlcindia.in and open the Careers section.
  2. Open the Industrial Trainee (Finance) Recruitment 2026 notification.
  3. Register using a valid email ID and mobile number.
  4. Complete the online application with personal and educational details.
  5. Upload documents — photograph, signature and certificates.
  6. Submit before the deadline and print the application form for future reference.

For apprentice engagements — note the postal step:

“Take a printout of the application form and send it via post or submit directly to: The General Manager, Learning and Development Centre, Block-20, NLC India Limited, Neyveli – 607 803.”

“The printed application and original certificates must be submitted before [the stated date].”

The online submission is not the end of the process. In one cycle, the online deadline was 2 January (5:00 PM) and the hard copy and originals deadline was 9 January (5:00 PM) — a one-week gap.

For the Trade Apprentice cycle, online registration closed 25 February and physical document submission closed 3 March 2026.

Miss the postal step and the application does not count. This is the same structure seen at BHEL Haridwar, which required the acknowledgement slip and documents by post within two weeks of the online close.

“Most rejections happen due to incomplete uploads or incorrect details during the online process.”

There is no application fee for the apprentice and Industrial Trainee routes.

8. Documents Checklist

  • ITI certificate in the relevant trade from a government-recognised institute
  • NAC Certificationrequired for Industrial Trainee (Mines & Mines Support Services)
  • Full-time Diploma in Engineering, minimum 3 years — for Industrial Trainee (SME Operations) and Technician Apprentice
  • Degree in Engineering/Technology — for Graduate Apprentice
  • CA / CMA Intermediate — for Industrial Trainee (Finance)
  • Diploma in Mining + DGMS Overman’s Certificate of Competency + valid First Aid Certificate — for Junior Overman
  • PAP certificate from the Land Office, where applicable
  • Aadhaar and category certificates in clear scanned format
  • Printed application and original certificates — for postal submission
  • ☐ Multiple photocopies for the verification stage

9. Assessment

In favour:

  • The highest apprentice stipends in this series₹11,040 (Trade), ₹12,524 (Technician), ₹15,028 (Graduate)
  • ₹22,000 for Industrial Trainee (Finance) — with a maximum age of 58
  • No application fee for apprentice and Industrial Trainee routes
  • No written exam for apprentices — “selection is purely based on the Merit List prepared from the marks obtained in the qualifying Degree/Diploma/ITI”
  • No negative marking in the Junior Overman written test, with 70 of 100 questions on your own subject
  • 607 Trade Apprentice posts — one of the largest apprenticeship programmes in South India
  • PAP preference for project-affected families
  • Accommodation at nominal rent, subject to availability
  • NLC produces the NAC that BHEL, BEL and NLC itself require

Against:

  • “Completion of training does not entitle trainees to any right for temporary or permanent employment in NLC India Limited” — stated expressly
  • One apprenticeship only — a current or completed apprenticeship disqualifies you
  • A postal submission is mandatory — the online form alone is not an application
  • The Trade Apprentice domicile position is disputed across sources
  • Industrial Trainee (Mines) requires the NAC — an ITI alone does not qualify
  • Training is at Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, for most engagements
  • Legal jurisdiction is Chennai courts only

Recommendations:

If you hold an ITI without an NAC, NLC’s Trade Apprentice programme is the route₹11,040 for twelve months, the highest trade stipend in this series, no fee, no exam. And the certificate it produces is what NLC’s own Industrial Trainee (Mines) post requires, along with BHEL Artisan Grade IV and BEL Technician ‘C’.

Take it once, and take it knowing that. A completed apprenticeship disqualifies you from another — here, at BHEL, and at Yantra India.

Complete the postal step. The online form is half the application. NLC has run cycles with a one-week gap between the online close and the hard-copy deadline, and the second deadline is the real one.

If you are a CA or CMA Intermediate candidate at any age up to 58, the Industrial Trainee (Finance) route is open₹22,000, no exam, no fee, selection on your Intermediate marks. Nothing else in this series has that age band.

And if you hold a Mining diploma with a DGMS Overman’s certificate, the Junior Overman paper has no negative marking and is 70% your own subject.
